--Quarterback Brett Favre completed 30 of 42 attempts for 271 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions, but both picks were costly ones, and both came in the second quarter. First, CB Antonio Cromartie deflected a pass away from WR Laveranues Coles, tipped it to himself and sailed 52 yards for a TD. Later in the quarter, FS Eric Weddle's interception of an overthrown ball led to a 45-yard TD drive for the Chargers. Favre was sacked three times and his left ankle was injured on a sack by Jyles Tucker in the third quarter. Favre was limping noticeably after the game.
--Running back Thomas Jones rushed for 37 yards on 10 carries, his worst game of the young season. He also had two receptions for 17 yards. The Jets were pretty much forced to abandon their running game in the second half because they always were trailing by double digits.
--Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery had 10 receptions for 76 yards, but his longest gain was merely 14 yards as the Chargers played loose coverage with a big lead, letting the Jets complete passes underneath. Cotchery also had a 54-yard kickoff return in the final quarter, positioning the Jets for a 19-yard TD drive. Both Cotchery and Favre blamed themselves for the second-quarter interception, which apparently resulted because of a miscommunication between the two.
