--K Jay Feely went 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts, including a 34-yard game-winner in overtime.

--CB Ty Law played extensively in his Jets debut, and often was singled up on Randy Moss, who had only two receptions before his touchdown catch that forced overtime.

--CB Ahmad Carroll, used mostly on special teams, got some work at cornerback. The Jets' secondary has been struggling and the coaching staff is trying a lot of different combinations.

--RB Thomas Jones ran for 104 yards and one touchdown on 30 carries. Jones' score gave him nine rushing touchdowns for the season, tying his career high with the Bears in 2005.

--WR Brad Smith took a direct snap 17 yards for a first down on the one occasion the Jets used the "Wildcat" formation. Brett Favre provided comic relief on the play, lining up as a wideout and putting his arm up to signify he was open.

REPORT CARD VS. RAMS

PASSING OFFENSE: A-minus -- In overtime, Brett Favre had to be Brett Favre for a change, and he did so, hitting five of six attempts for 56 of the 64 yards on the game-winning drive. The key was rookie TE Dustin Keller, who had a season-eight eight receptions, including three for first downs on that particular drive. Favre threw for 258 yards and two TDs and was turnover-free for the second straight game. Jerricho Cotchery had a spectacular 46-yard catch to set up his own TD.

RUSHING OFFENSE: B-minus -- Thomas Jones ran for 104 yards, but it took him 30 carries to do it against the banged-up but proud New England defense. Brad Smith's 17-yard run with a direct snap was an excellent bit of trickery, and Jones also garnered his ninth rushing TD of the season, tying his career-best in 2005 with Chicago. Jones ran for only one TD in 2007.

PASS DEFENSE: D -- There were two positives here: the pressure the Jets got on Cassel, even though he hurt them with his scrambles and the fact that Randy Moss was limited to two catches until the one that forced overtime. Cassel threw for a career-high 400 yards as the Jets mixed and matched different DB combinations without finding an answer.

RUSH DEFENSE: B-minus -- Yes, New England gained 5.0 yards per rush, but a hefty chunk of that came via scrambles by Matt Cassel, who had 62 yards on eight attempts. New England RBs produced only 63 yards on 17 carries, an average of 3.7 yards. NT Kris Jenkins and Darrelle Revis combined to stop FB Heath Evans for a 2-yard loss on third-and-1 from the Jets' 21 in the second quarter.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A-minus -- Jay Feely was 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts, including a 34-yard game-winner. Leon Washington's 92-yard TD on a kickoff return helped the Jets build an 18-point second-quarter lead, but their own coverage teams kept New England's Ellis Hobbs from having a similar effect. Reggie Hodges averaged a 39.8-yard net on four punts.

COACHING: B -- Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's game plan was solid, mixing a few risky plays with many more safer ones. Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton couldn't come up with a way to stop Cassel consistently, and the Jets should've mixed in some blitzes on the Patriots' final drive instead of using a three-man rush. Eric Mangini's successful first-quarter challenge of what originally was ruled an incompletion to Laveranues Coles kept the first TD drive alive and was an early momentum-changer.
