But in overtime, the Jets began every possession with at least two consecutive runs by Thomas Jones. Granted, Jones had an outstanding game with 159 yards on 24 carries, but the passing game had finally gotten in gear on the Jets' game-tying drive at the end of regulation.

"You're not on the same time constraints that you were toward the end of the game in the fourth quarter," coach Eric Mangini explained, adding, "I think we ended up with 7 yards a carry or something."

Actually, it was 7.3 yards per carry.

--WR Brad Smith had his best game of the season with four carries for 59 yards and four catches for 29 yards. His 36-yard reverse set up the Jets' only touchdown, and his 18-yard catch led to Feely's tying field goal near the end of regulation.

Prior to Sunday, Smith had no receptions in 2008.

"We've had plays in for Brad throughout the season," Mangini said Monday. "Some have gotten called, but a lot of times with those plays, they're specific to a look. You may call three or four of those plays and may not get the look that you want, so you check out of it and you go to the next play. It was just one of those situations where we did get the looks that we liked and he got a chance to do it. I thought he was pretty effective in it. That's not really going away. The Brad Smith-specific-plays will be in every single week."

--Mangini said he didn't notice that Oakland interim coach Tom Cable had called a timeout before Feely's first attempt at a tying 52-year field goal in the fourth quarter. That one hit the left upright, but the one that counted was good.

"I was watching Jay," Mangini said. "I wasn't watching Cable."

Given the somber post-game circumstances for the Jets, nobody asked Mangini if he had been watching satellite TV instead.

--A report on foxsports.com accused Brett Favre of a form of NFL insider trading, saying that called the Lions before their Sept. 14 game against Green Bay and spent more than an hour giving coaches inside information on the Packers' offense. If he did, it didn't do Detroit much good. Green Bay won, 48-25.

In a text message to an NBC reporter, Favre strongly denied it. Detroit coach Rod Marinelli had no comment.
