This time, I don't think Brett Favre comes back again

This time, I don't think Brett Favre comes back again
Apr. 28, 2009 (Newsday delivered by Newstex ) --

Of course, he can if he wants, now that the Jets have released him from their reserve/retired list.

The move comes three days after the Jets made USC quarterback Mark Sanchez the fifth overall draft pick following a blockbuster trade with the Browns.

The move was first reported by NFL.com.

Favre indicated he has no plans to come out of retirement for a second straight year. He announced his retirement from the Packers in March, 2008, but changed his mind shortly thereafter. He was eventually reinstated last July and traded to the Jets on Aug. 6.

?(Favres agent) Bus (Cook) and Mike (Tannenbaum, the Jets general manager) have been talking about this for a while, Favre said in a statement. ?Nothing has changed. At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to Football.

Good.

Favre scratched the itch last year by coming out of retirement and forcing a trade to the Jets . But he suffered a torn biceps that would require surgery if he wanted to continue playing. And Favre said he has no intention of getting the surgery done.

The Jets lost four of their last five games to finish 9-7 and miss the playoffs.

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement that the move had been considered for several weeks.

?Brett requested his release some time ago, Tannenbaum said in a statement. ?He has not indicated any desire to return to Football, and he remains retired. We wish him the best.

As part of Favres contract with the Jets , he could not have been traded to an NFC North team without the Jets surrendering three first-round draft picks. Last nights decision eliminates that stipulation.

But it won't end the speculation; surely, the Favre-to-the-Vikings rumors will re-emerge.

Let's just hope this time Favre realizes that he should move on after a magnificent career.
