THE BET BOX
Hey, Bob Kraft, how's it feel to be No. 4?

Right now Kraftie's New England Patriots , in this what-have-you-done-for-me-lately world, are the fourth best team in Boston.

That's right, the fourth best team in Boston!

The evidence is near overwhelming. While the Pats currently languish out of an NFL playoff berth and behind the Jets, for cryin' out loud, in the AFC East, they can't compete with their local brethren.

The Celtics are, without debate, Boston's best. The current NBA champs are again toying with the league, sporting a 14-2 record.

The Red Sox. No World Series repeat but one win away this year from giving it a go. No disputing they're pulling rank on the Pats.

And now the B's are back! Near the top of the Eastern Conference and leading their division at 14-4-4, the Bruins are pumping blood back into their once morbid legions.

Hey Belichick! How's it feel to be outcoached by a Doc, a Tito and a Claude? Yeah, the Pats are No. 4. Now, what are you going to do about it?

That was a good start last week in Miami, but how about beating the Steelers at the Stadium At The Mall on Sunday. That will inch you up a bit, though not quite out of the four-hole.

Let's face it, the only way to improve on your once lofty status is to return to the glory days of Super Bowl supremacy. Win another championship, as nutty as that may sound right now. Set the standard for 2009 and wrestle that No. 1 ranking back.

If not, well, at least you're not No. 5 (hello, Revolution).

Life Without Tom, Week 13:

Pittsburgh (+1) at Patriots - Matt Cassel is Thanksgiving, Christmas and Happy New Year all rolled into one. How about adding more Fourth of July fireworks. Pats, 27-20.

Turkey Day leftovers:

Denver (+7 1/2) at N.Y. Jets - Any team that loses to Oakland by 21 points at home deserves a Moe Howard poke in the eyes. Jets, 30-13.

San Francisco (+6 1/2) at Buffalo - So the Bills hung 54 points on the Chiefs. Big deal. Get 54 more this week, and now we're talking. Bills, 54-14.

New Orleans (+3 1/2) at Tampa Bay - Every time the Saints win a game, Mardi Gras breaks out in Naw'leans. Never lasts more than a week. Buccaneers, 19-13.

Carolina (+3) at Green Bay - Packers fans are jamming the malls looking for Santa Claus and asking for Brett Favre - before Christmas, please. Packers, 20-16.

N.Y. Giants (-3 1/2) at Washington - A new administration is getting ready for D.C., but there's nothing they can do about the Redskins. Giants, 17-16.

Miami (-9) at St. Louis - Always good to have a team like the Rams on the schedule when needed the most. Dolphins, 24-17.

Baltimore (-7) at Cincinnati - It's about this time every season, when people start talking about the Ravens, that they take the big fat dive. Bengals, 23-17.

Indianapolis (-5) at Cleveland - Browns coach Romeo Crennel said, ``The thing I can control is whether we win or lose.'' Then why aren't you guys 11-0? Colts, 31-10.

Atlanta (+4 1/2) at San Diego - Chargers QB Philip Rivers: ``At least one more week, we can say it, we're still in the hunt.'' What? For the No. 1 draft pick. Falcons, 26-23.

Kansas City (+3) at Oakland - Invitations were sent to legendary QBs Len Dawson and Ken Stabler to attend this stinker. They said only if we can play. Raiders, 27-21.

Chicago (+3) at Minnesota - Got a feeling these are two teams that will be in the Matt Cassel sweepstakes during the offseason. Vikings, 17-13.

Jacksonville (+3) at Houston - Can't the NFL do something and flex this Monday nighter right off the schedule all together? Jaguars, 33-23.

Last week: 9-7.

Season: 80-88-4.
