PLAYER NOTES
--WR Jerricho Cotchery had one reception for zero yards but his lack of production could have been due to an undisclosed injury. Eric Mangini admitted that Cotchery was banged up during the game, but went no further.
--FS Kerry Rhodes has no interceptions this season, as teams have been avoiding both him and LCB Darrelle Revis and picking on RCB Dwight Lowery instead. Rhodes did have nine tackles, including one for a loss, against Oakland.
--TE Chris Baker had five receptions for 42 yards for his most productive game of the season.
--WR Chansi Stuckey had no receptions in the first 59 minutes of the game but had two catches for 48 yards after that, including a key 31-yarder that got the Jets started toward the game-tying field goal.
--RB-KR Leon Washington had three carries for 19 yards, including a tackle-breaking 11-yard touchdown run. He also had three receptions for 21 yards. He had a tough day in the return game, however, averaging only 17.3 yards on three kickoff returns. He also fumbled a punt, setting up an Oakland field goal, and netted zero yards on three punt returns.
REPORT CARD VS. BENGALS
PASSING OFFENSE: D -- Brett Favre's passer rating of 47.8 tells the story. He threw two interceptions, including one that denied the Jets a chance at a chip-shot field goal, and almost was picked off in overtime. He also failed to throw a touchdown for the first time as a Jet. Favre also was sacked three times as RT Damien Woody was beaten twice.
RUSHING OFFENSE: A-plus -- The Jets pushed Oakland around at the line of scrimmage and also outflanked the Raiders with trickery. Thomas Jones had 159 yards on 24 carries, the second-highest single-game output of his nine-year career, while Brad Smith had reverses of 36 and 14 yards. And Leon Washington added a pile-driving, tackle-breaking 11-yard run for the Jets' lone TD.
PASS DEFENSE: B -- The Jets forced the often-inaccurate JaMarcus Russell to throw on the run as they pressured him quite often, sacking him twice. But Russell's passes hurt the Jets when it mattered most, as he beat back-to-back blitzes for passes of 16 and 27 yards to WR Javon Walker and TE Zach Miller, respectively, setting up Sebastian Janikowski's 57-yard game-winner.
RUSH DEFENSE: C-plus -- The Jets allowed 4.0 yards per carry, but that figure was skewed by a 22-yard gain on a fake punt. Featured back Justin Fargas was limited to 74 yards on 28 carries, and the Jets were fortunate that rookie Darren McFadden only had eight carries. He averaged 4.9 yards on those attempts.
SPECIAL TEAMS: B-minus -- The return game that the Jets used to such advantage against Cincinnati a week earlier was missing, mostly thanks to the long kickoffs and punts of Janikowski and Shane Lechler, respectively. Leon Washington's fumbled punt set up an Oakland FG. Jay Feely connected on field goals of 40 and 52 yards and Reggie Hodges placed three punts inside the 20, but the Jets were fooled on Jon Alston's 22-yard run on a fake punt. Wallace Wright lost containment on that play.
COACHING: C-plus -- Mike Westhoff's usually well-prepared special teams were caught out of position on the fake. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's game plan was quite diversified, but the offense only produced one TD despite averaging 7.3 yards per rush. Bob Sutton's plan on defense good for the most part, but the Jets got burned on two blitzes in overtime. The whole was less than the sum of the parts on this day.
