New York Jets Notes, Quotes 2008-12-25
--DE Shaun Ellis was fined $10,000 by the NFL for throwing a huge snowball at fans after the Jets' 13-3 loss at Seattle. Fans were throwing snowballs at the field and at the Jets' sideline throughout the game, hitting players, officials, media and Seahawks personnel.

"That situation in the stadium in general was not a very safe situation for anybody involved," coach Eric Mangini said. "That doesn't justify us getting involved in it on the flip side of that. (Ellis) understands that. We thought that there could have been more done to prevent what was happening in terms of the safety from snowballs coming down. That still doesn't justify us getting (involved) in any context."

"It was all in fun," said Ellis. "Coming off, everybody was throwing snowballs. It was kind of a little battlefield out there. ... It was unsafe but every time it snows you get that."

Ellis, who is believed to have been fined $10,000 by the Jets for his arrest for marijuana possession, will play in the regular-season finale.

--Eric Mangini isn't Scrooge, apparently. Because despite the Jets' recent slide, he isn't making his players work on Christmas. Instead, they practiced Tuesday and Wednesday and will resume Friday.

"We had a change of schedule so it switched things up for us a little bit from a preparation standpoint," Mangini said, "but we did some work on Miami later in the week last week. This gives (players) the opportunity to spend time with their families on Christmas without sacrificing the amount of time that we have collectively for the Dolphins."

It also had the side benefit of allowing players to get back to work quickly after the sting of the loss to Seattle.

"It's always positive, if you do have a loss," the coach said, "to get back into your work and to work on your next opponent. The quicker you do that, oftentimes, the better. The flip side of that is we're not that far removed from the game so physically we have to take that into account as we go through practice."

BY THE NUMBERS: 11 -- Amount of sacks for the Jets in their last seven games, including none at Seattle. They had 29 through the first eight.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "The pressure I feel every week is the same pressure. I want to put these guys in a position to be successful. I want to give them the best opportunity to win. That is the greatest pressure I put on myself. That is the greatest pressure I put on the staff is to give them the best chance to win. Anything outside of that can't be greater than the pressure that's already there to give them that chance." -- Coach Eric Mangini, on whether he feels he is on the hot seat because of the Jets' slump.
