--DE Shaun Ellis started three days after details of his Nov. 29 arrest for marijuana possession came to light. He was quite productive, with eight tackles, including a sack, plus a forced fumble. Ellis broke a streak of four straight games in which he was sackless.
Ellis, one of six team captains for the Jets, was not on the field for the coin toss before the opening kickoff. He indicated that absence wasn't significant, noting that he was talking to an assistant coach at the time and simply missed his cue to go out there.
Ellis' sack was one of only two for the Jets on Shaun Hill. "He was throwing the ball quickly," Ellis said of Hill.
--Special-teamer James Ihedigbo was shaken up and came off the field in the first quarter. He returned, only to wind up in the middle of a controversy in the fourth quarter.
Ihedigbo's holding penalty erased a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Leon Washington, which would've given the Jets a 20-17 lead. They instead took possession on their own 30, were unable to get a first down, and were forced to punt. San Francisco then drove for a touchdown and a 10-point lead.
"I didn't see the hold," coach Eric Mangini said after the game. "From my vantage point, I couldn't see what happened on that play. But it's like anything else, if you punctuate a drive with penalties, it's hard to gain momentum."
The Jets had eight penalties for 57 yards.
Mangini was asked about the call again Monday, and responded, "They called it. I can't do anything about it. There's nothing I can do about it. It was called and that was their decision."
--The Jets are 0-3 on the West Coast this season, despite flying out two days before each game, as opposed to flying the day before for closer games. With that in mind, Mangini said Monday the Jets might leave the day before the game at Seattle on Dec. 21.
"There's a good chance," he said. "That's definitely being talked about. I haven't really seen the value in doing it the other way."
