New York Jets Notes, Quotes 2009-02-17
--Brett Favre's former teammates on the Jets weren't surprised by his retirement.

"I kind of saw it coming," tight end Chris Baker said. "I wasn't surprised that he was ready to move on."

Right guard Brandon Moore felt the same way.

"It wasn't a big surprise," Moore said. "I knew he'd be leaning toward retirement the way the season ended."

Moore added that considering that Favre would be trying to rehab from a torn biceps tendon, his decision, "wasn't that big a shock."

Wide receiver Chansi Stuckey caught his first NFL touchdown pass on a fourth-down Hail Mary from Favre in the season-opening win at Miami.

It was "incredible playing with Brett, who is a future Hall of Famer," Stuckey said. "I'm not surprised by his retirement and greatly appreciate what he has done for me as a player (and) for the Jet organization. I wish him luck in all his future endeavors."

--Favre said he isn't sure what those future endeavors might be.

"I have no idea what I'm going to do and I'm fine with that," he said. "Right now I've got no desire to do anything."

--Although Favre was selected to the Pro Bowl, he didn't go to Hawaii because of his ailing shoulder. But the other six Jets selected for the game did participate.

That included Pro Bowl fixture Alan Faneca at left guard and center Nick Mangold, making his first appearance in the game. Both of the Jets' running backs were there. Thomas Jones had 21 yards on six carries, made one reception for 3 yards and also made one tackle on special teams.

Return specialist Leon Washington averaged 16.2 yards on four kickoff returns and one yard on two punt returns, and also got into the act on offense with two rushes for 22 yards and one catch for 6 yards.

On defense, nose tackle Kris Jenkins had two tackles and cornerback Darrelle Revis had five tackles, plus an end-zone interception off Eli Manning of the Giants.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I have no reason to wonder why you would be so skeptical." -- QB Brett Favre when asked if he was retiring for good this time.
