Jets sign No. 6 pick Gholston to five-year deal

The New York Jets signed Vernon Gholston, the sixth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, to a five-year, $50 million contract on Friday, The Daily News reported.

The linebacker/defensive end reportedly will collect a $21 million signing bonus.

Gholston missed both practices Thursday while final details of the deal were being worked out.

The 6-foot-3 Detroit native set an Ohio State record with 14 sacks in 2007 as a junior. He finished with 37 tackles and a fumble recovery. He also had 8.5 sacks as a sophomore.
