With the Giants at home on Sunday, Dec. 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles, one less date is available for the NJSIAA high school Football finals, which are held annually the first weekend of December at Giants Stadium and Rutgers Stadium.
Yet by adjusting the schedules at both venues, the NJSIAA will be able to hold just one fewer state final that weekend.
Last year, with all three days available at both stadiums with both the Giants and Jets playing on the road, the NJSIAA held 16 playoff championships. This year, despite having only five of six dates available, 15 playoff titles will be decided at the state's most prestigious venues.
"It was unusual last year, because both the Giants and Jets were not playing at home on Sunday, and it turns out that this is a pretty normal year," said Bob Baly, NJSIAA assistant director in charge of the Football playoffs. "With one less date we're only one game shy of last year, and I think we have some great matchups."
Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway will play host to nine games, two on Friday, Dec. 5, four on Saturday, Dec. 6, and three on Sunday, Dec. 7. Giants Stadium will play host to six games, two on Dec. 5 and four on Dec. 6.
Last year's 16th game, the Non-Public, Group 1 final, already has been played, with Paterson Catholic defeating St. Mary's, 19-7.
