'Tis the season for bargain shopping

'Tis the season for bargain shopping
As swift as the intensely cold weather has draped itself over the New England landscape, the NFL season scurries toward its final quarter. And what a wacky, strange and unpredictable trip it has been thus far.

Tennessee is unbeaten, the New York Brett Favres lead the AFC East and the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals recently played to the first tie since 2002.

As erratic as it's been, the fantasy Football campaign has been equally capricious. Arizona's ageless gunslinger, Kurt Warner (37 years old), is making a bid at his third MVP award with an NFC- leading 20 TDs and over 3,000 yards passing. Perennial top overall pick LaDainian Tomlinson's 686 rushing yards and measly five touchdowns don't

even crack the top 10 among tailbacks. And the surname Moss still holds water near the top of the receiver pool, but it's preceded by Santana of Washington, not Randy of New England.

It's a fickle mess, indeed.

That being said, there's a plethora of viable sleepers out there just waiting to be snatched up. Maybe they're even collecting dust on your bench. Here's a list of the top under-the-radar players for Week 12, perhaps beyond:

Justin Gage, WR, Tennessee

Gage is more than likely a guy that's been riding your pine for the last month or so, due to the MCL strain he suffered in Week 2 against Cincinnati. In and out of the lineup since theof September, Gage is starting to show signs of life of late, turning in a 147-yard receiving day with two scores on only four catches last week. Undefeated Tennessee, with Kerry Collins at the helm, isn't exactly drawing comparisons to last year's New England team with Tom Brady behind center. But with 129 points in their last five games, the defensive Titans are showing signs that it can win games with its offense, too.

Jeff Garcia, QB, Tampa Bay

Let's face it, the fact that the Buccaneers are facing a winless Detroit Lions team factors into the equation immensely. But that aside, since reassuming the starting position in Week 5, Garcia has 1,397 yards with four touchdowns and just two interceptions. While the TD stat is a bit inadequate, Garcia's ability to rack up the yards makes him viable. And given he's going up against a Detroit defense that's surrendering 230.6 passing yards per game and 30.8 points per contest, unless you have the last name Manning, Brees or Warner taking the snaps, Garcia is a smart start.

Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Miami

Ginn is a perfect start this week if you have a flex position on your roster. The Dolphins wideout had four catches for 51 yards, and added a 40-yard reverse for his first rushing TD as a professional, during Miami's win over Oakland last week. Ginn has become one of Chad Pennington's favorite targets, garnering 331 receiving yards in his last four games. He has just one TD catch, but with his breakaway speed and recent promotion to full-time kick returner, Ginn has become a triple-threat commodity for the upstart 'Phins.

Neil Rackers, K, Arizona

Rackers has been racking up the stats for the resurgent Cardinals. He made four field goals last Sunday, including a 54- yarder, which was his longest in four seasons. Rackers is averaging 8.3 points per game and has exceeded the 10-point plateau in each of the last three weeks. Arizona's high-flying offense will be tested against the stingy New York Giants defense, but that could likely mean more stalled drives and field goal attempts for the lead- footed righty. If he's on waivers, don't hesitate, but he might even be worth picking up in a trade for the stretch run.

Antonio Pittman, RB, St. Louis

With Steven Jackson on the shelf for the fourth time in five weeks, Pittman is a workable tailback, whether it be a starter or at the flex spot. Pittman is coming off the best game of his career with 95 yards on 14 carries last Sunday. He should see the bulk of the load against a Chicago defense that gave up a season-high 200 yards on the ground against a Green Bay team that was ranked in the bottom half of the league in average rushing yards per game heading into the matchup with the Bears. He's not a top-15 rusher this week, but if you need a quality back to fill a void, Pittman's your guy.

Dustin Keller, TE, N.Y. Jets

The rookie tighthad a breakout game two weeks ago against St. Louis, catching six passes for 107 yards and a touchdown. Veteran quarterback and Madden '09 cover boy Brett Favre showed even more confidence in him last week against the Patriots, targeting him eight times for 87 yards. Three of those eight catches came in overtime, none more important than 16-yard reception he made on third-and-15, continuing the game-winning scoring drive. Keller has caught Favre's eye, and there's no reason to think he won't continue to look his way this week against the unbeaten Tennessee Titans, whose smothering defense has proven to be susceptible in the middle of the field - where Keller makes his home.
