Saturday night was Brett Favre’s much balleyhooed debut as a New York Jet. The Jets lost to the Washington Redskins, 13-10.
This isn’t the first time Favre made a debut of sorts against the Redskins. The first time happened a loooooong time ago. On November 10, 1991, Brett Favre made his NFL debut against the Washington Redskins.
Favre was then a rookie for the Atlanta Falcons. The Redskins were on their way to a 14-2 season that ended with a win over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVI.
Favre had mop up duty in that game … completing none of his four passes in the Redskins’ 56-17 romp. Favre’s very first NFL pass was picked off by the Skins’ Andre Collins and returned for a TD (he would get picked off again that game).
As a Packer, Favre would win all four starts against Washington … including a 17-14 win last season.
