The Jets, as part of their plan, are holding an auction to maximize return on the fees generated by the 2,000 seats in their Coaches Club. Those seats, among other perks, allow the owners to stand just behind the Jets bench during games. To ensure the bidding reaches stratospheric levels, they’ve enlisted the help of a New York icon.

I didn’t say it was a football icon. Hard to see how the patron saint of conspicuous consumption will portray this as anything other than a crude cash grab by the Jets. It will be interesting to see how such a strategy plays out in the current financial atmosphere, regardless of the Donald’s come-on.
